Monkey business for Worker's compensation claims A Connecticut police officer entered a gruesome scene while acting in the line of duty. A 200-pound chimp turned on its owner, and tore at the face and hands of the owner's friend. Officer Chiafari showed up in response to a 9-1-1 distress call. The bloody-toothed chimp lurched for Chiafari, who then fired his gun and brought the attack to an end. Unfortunately, the police officer continues to suffer Post Traumatic Stress from the incident. It effects his daily functioning, ability to perform at work, and social interaction. Due to his pain and suffering, Chiafari filed a worker's compensation claim. The City flatly denied the police officer's worker's comp claim within five days, insisting that it only covered injuries involving human assailants, not animals. The injured policeman continues to fight for his rights. He recently testified before the Labor and Public Employees Committee, endorsing a change to the law that would include serious injuries received on the job, due to life-threatening animals. NY Snow Injuries :: On the Sidwalk and on the Trail

02.08.2010

One month ago, New York injury lawyers cautioned our readers to enjoy the snow, but under safe and controlled conditions. Beside warning of the typical sidewalk slip and fall on ice, we specifically cautioned NY adventure-seekers against the risk of snowmobile injuries, as drivers transverse steep hills and unknown surfaces in conditions that provide poor-visibility. Slip, falls, and rollovers can cause serious injury. NY State troopers reported that a 43-year old man went flying off his snowmobile Friday night, after hitting an unexpected mound. The man suffered a back injury and required hospitalization. Most disturbing is the fact that CNY Snow Travelers had specifically warned snowmobile drivers not to travel the C7 route due to weather conditions. Please avoid a got hurt NY injury by respecting rangers, weather reports and warning signs. Enjoy the snow -- under control. Waterville NY snowmobile riders can track ongoing trail updates at CNY's Trail News & Updates section.
