Monkey business for Worker's compensation claims A Connecticut police officer entered a gruesome scene while acting in the line of duty. A 200-pound chimp turned on its owner, and tore at the face and hands of the owner's friend. Officer Chiafari showed up in response to a 9-1-1 distress call. The bloody-toothed chimp lurched for Chiafari, who then fired his gun and brought the attack to an end. Unfortunately, the police officer continues to suffer Post Traumatic Stress from the incident. It effects his daily functioning, ability to perform at work, and social interaction. Due to his pain and suffering, Chiafari filed a worker's compensation claim. The City flatly denied the police officer's worker's comp claim within five days, insisting that it only covered injuries involving human assailants, not animals. The injured policeman continues to fight for his rights. He recently testified before the Labor and Public Employees Committee, endorsing a change to the law that would include serious injuries received on the job, due to life-threatening animals. Car Accident :: Personal Injury While Waiting at Stop Sign

01.07.2009

Want to prevent a personal injury while sitting behind the wheel? Driving Schools tells students in their first lesson: Be careful about other drivers. Being a good driver alone is simply not enough. Take a look at this Maryland driver who recently got hit while waiting at a Stop sign. Another vehicle, operated by a person taking Lyrica medication, swerved across the road median, two lanes, a front yard and a curb, and hit the idle car. Fortunately, this personal injury victim sued the opposing driver -- and won compensation -- for medical expenses and personal injuries, which included shoulder and neck injuries (details here). On a related note, California recently passed a law prohibiting drivers from sending or receiving SMS Text messages while driving. Hopefully, this will reduce the number of car accidents and other personal injuries caused by car accidents in which drivers lack focus and driving concentration. New York personal injury lawyers and California law makers know well that car accidents can kill or seriously injure pedestrians, bicyclists, and other drivers. Let's do our best in 2009 to be responsible on the road.
