Another classic example of an on-the-job injury. On Oct. 20, 2002, Oswaldo B., a Peruvian alien in New York, slipped on grease which was on the fourth step of a 17-step stairway in the Manhattan restaurant in which he worked. Oswaldo fell down the kitchen steps and into the basement. He severely cut his arm, and required corrective surgery. Oswaldo contended that the restaurant was liable, as it failed to provide a properly positioned handrail and floor-treading. Oswaldo sued and won.
